“My work should speak for itself.”
This phrase is often uttered as a complaint.
I’d like to believe doing good work is a baseline for everything we offer.
How do we then progress from there?
Perhaps, what we ought to do is to be honest with ourselves.
By saying (and fill in the blank):
I’m not getting enough ______.
What could I do?
Hiding
Under the guise of
“My work should speak for itself”
Is easy.
The answer is often staring right back at us.
But it can be difficult / uncomfortable to do.
You need to show:
Who you are
How you do what you do.
And engage.
What is it going to be for you?
