How do you take your business to the next level?
Is it by upgrading your website?
Getting a logo designed by a super-expensive pro designer?
Hiring me to take photos of you?
It would be easy to pick one out of the list.
Let me share the truth with you right here.
There are two important things you need to do.
If you can only do one rather than both it’s okay.
If you could do both it’s super.
What do you stand for? What is your brand (your promise)?
First of all, you need to write about it. Second, you need to talk about it.
Ok, sure, you’re writing captions for your Instagram posts daily. You write your blog posts according to your social media content schedule. You have videos out on a regular basis.
But you don’t talk about what you really stand for because of the fear of alienating someone in the audience. You don’t write about it because it feels like you’ve said and written about it one too many times and, most of all, you’re bored.
Of course, the boredom part is, well, a bore. But we are professionals. We show up even when we don’t feel like showing up. While we may feel that the message we once carefully crafted sounds like a tape that’s been played too many times, the people who need to hear that message have barely heard it more than once because they often do not read what we write or they do not hear us. They are distracted.
If you’re hiding your message behind some shiny new things (which also happen to get more LIKES than your usual message), you’re confusing your audience. While you’re trying to appeal to the masses with a diluted message, you don’t get to share your true gift with the people who really need it.
Are you clear on what it is you want to do for whom?
If you are, then talk about it, write about it and do it again and again until the cows come home. And after all of the cows have arrived, talk about it even more because that’s the time to double down on what you stand for.
